Entrepreneurs Need Social Networking

In this developing age of technology, it has now become more important than ever for companies to find cost effective ways of marketing their product or business. One of the most recent technologies that provide free marketing strategies are on social networks such as Facebook, Myspace and LinkedIn. These social networking sites, which we are so used to using in every day life for personal, allow these businesses to put their products out to the public free of charge. This is an essential for businesses and companies these days with the recent downward trend of the economy. This has become such an important part of business life that companies are now hiring employees that have an expertise in social networking. In my opinion, this is a great thing for companies and employees alike, because not only does it help a business out enormously, but it also creates job opportunities in a struggling economy. With the entrepreneur not being able to devote their time fully to this task, the amount of open jobs increases for those with experience and skill in such areas as customer service.

The jobs of these employees in operating social networks are entirely related to providing information for the customer as often as possible. Another huge benefit to these types of sites is that it expands the business to a worldwide base. It can attract more customers from overseas and communicate with customers or other employees (depending on size of business) from around the world.

I think that this type of technological advancement in the business world is all for the best. It establishes so many new opportunities for everyone involved. It establishes credibility for businesses in networks that they might not have been able to reach out to, as well as creating a community and relationship between employees and customers. Not only that, but as mentioned before, as an entrepreneur, to find any way that is cost-efficient and effective in promoting a company at the same time is extremely beneficial. The most important benefit in my mind is that this allows customers to give their information to the business more personally while keeping it organized within the databases contained in the network. All things related to personal information can be stored immediately on the computer through the network, much easier than personal files and documents in filing cabinets in my opinion. Social networking has become a fixture in the lives of many people, and it is very intriguing and exciting to see such a useful tool becoming a fixture in the business world as well.

I agree with Zack that Social Networking is a great tool for a business to use. Whether we want to admit it or not the average student spends a good portion of their time on facebook. Ever since facebook was sold to its current owners there have been significant changes and new influences. On either sides of the main page there are constantly new adds for various online stores or opportunities in our area. They target us based on our interests and location. Its almost scary when you log in and see things like Hey Lauren here are some things going on in Baltimore. They know my name and where I currently am. I think that major companies have made great use of using social networking but I feel like smaller businesses have not taken full advantage of them. For example I think that it would be great for a small boutique that is opening up to advertise on a social network or even create a facebook page to advertise what kinds of merchandise will be sold in their stores. Social networking offers endless possibilities to businesses and it is great that more jobs are being created thanks to a more active approach on using the internet and social networking sites.
